The Institute of Chinese Materia Medica of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences attended the Seminar on Evidence-Based Practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Malaysia

From Jul. 15 to 16, 2024, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, the Seminar on Evidence-Based Practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Health of Malaysia and China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (CACMS), was convened in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Aiming at the enhancement of exchange and cooperation between the two sides in evidence-based traditional medicine research and practice, the seminar welcomed more than 70 participants, including relevant leaders from the Department of International Cooperation of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (NATCM) of China, representatives of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia, representatives of CACMS, relevant leaders of the Ministry of Health of Malaysia, officials of research and policy departments, scholar representatives from local TCM colleges and universities, and representatives of TCM physicians.

Researcher of the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, Zhang Wei, and Associate Researcher Xu Jiang, were invited to deliver special reports respectively entitled “Research Content, Policy and Implementation of Chinese Ancient Classic Formulae” and “Quality Improvement of Chinese materia medica”, and had in-depth and friendly academic exchanges with the participants. Dr Goh Cheng Soon, Director of Traditional and Complementary Medicine Division of the Ministry of Health, Malaysia, presided over the seminar and expressed the hope of “promoting TCM research and the exchanges and training of relevant knowledge”. Datuk Dr. Muhammad Radzi Bin Abu Hassan, Director-General of Health of Malaysia, issued expert certificates for representatives of the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica. The event was covered by TV1 Malaysia and the website of the Malaysian government.

The seminar has displayed for Malaysia the development policies and research approaches of traditional medicine with Chinese characteristics, thus pushing forward the turning of evidence-based traditional medicine research towards policy and practice, and strengthening the foundation for further exchange and cooperation in traditional medicine and health between the two countries.
