China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences Participates in Traditional Chinese Medicine Exhibition at the “2021 China International Fair for Trade in Services”

The China International Fair for Trade in Services (“CIFTIS”) co-sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and the Beijing Municipal People’s Government kicked off in Beijing on September 2, 2021. A total of over 10,000 enterprises and public institutions from 153 countries and regions participated in the online and offline exhibitions.

The theme of this CIFTIS is “Enabling a Digital Future, Driving Development with Services”, which highlights the benefits of digitalization for the public. The health service exhibition takes place at the exhibition area of Shougang Park. The TCM and massive health exhibition is an independent section of this CIFTIS, with a total exhibition area of about 1,000 sq. m. 45 exhibitors showcase new products and technologies of TCM in the fight against the epidemic at home and abroad, healthy development, featured diagnosis and treatment, etc. 

This is the seventh time that China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (CACMS) participates in the TCM exhibition at the CIFTIS. Achievements made by the CACMS in the technological innovation of TCM, the anti-epidemic performance of TCM, the introduction of technology through international cooperation, conservation of ancient TCM books, education and training, etc. are displayed in the forms of physical exhibits, promotional videos, interaction, online exhibition halls and so on. Li Kun, Vice President of the CACMS, led a team to tour the exhibition.

CACMS’s six second-level institutions and organizations including Xiyuan Hospital, Guang’anmen Hospital, Eye Hospital, Institute of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Institute of Information on Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Medical Experiment Center participated in this exhibition, with a total of 24 physical exhibits, 5 promotional videos, and 3 exhibition boards. The book attracted many visitors, and was covered by several media units.

Ancient book restoration professionals of the Institute of Information on Traditional Chinese Medicine demonstrated the skills of restoring ancient books. Many leaders and visitors were attracted by the debut of ancient book restoration skills at the CIFTIS. The restoration staff demonstrated different restoration methods for ancient books which were damaged to varying degrees at the venue.

Xiyuan Hospital exhibited 12 hospital preparations. Star products such as Granules for resolving dampness and relieving internal heat and Compound Spina Date Seed Paste attracted widespread attention from the visitors and the media. “Acupuncture needles with insulated needle body” is the result of the combination of traditional medicine and modern innovation. This needle can be used for clinical and basic research, saving medical expenditures for the state and lessening the burden for medical costs. Lymphedema Management and Spine and Joint Articulation for Manual Therapists are the translation outcomes of the cooperation between the Acupuncture Department of Xiyuan Hospital and Hannover Medical School in Germany. European rehabilitation technology is combined with TCM techniques for remarkable curative effect. It is well received by patients.

Guang’anmen Hospital exhibited international telemedicine platform, a product that has won many awards at CIFTIS. It can realize cross-border telemedicine featuring combination of TCM with western medicine. The accompanying health management all-in-one machine can measure blood pressure, blood oxygen, etc. and send the data to the telemedicine platform for remote consultation. It attracted many visitors for interactive experience. 

The Institute of Acupuncture and Moxibustion exhibited the ear vagus nerve stimulator (TENS-200 model). Based on the theory of auricular points for acupuncture and moxibustion in TCM, it focuses on the regulation of autonomic nervous function, and is a safe, efficient, convenient and economical device for the treatment of epilepsy and depression. After 3 years of promotion, it has been applied in over 100 hospitals in 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, covering 16 kinds of diseases. It has won many scientific and technological achievements awards at the provincial and municipal levels.

Moreover, the Eye Hospital, Institute of Information on Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Medical Experiment Center exhibited the China Journal of Chinese Ophthalmology, the digitalization of ancient TCM books and intelligent diagnosis and treatment, TCM-based smart wearables, TCM smart robots, health preservation videos and other featured products online through 2D and 3D booths.
