By May 17th this year, China’s first TCM anti-epidemic medical team in Cambodia had successfully completed a one-year anti-epidemic & health aid mission. During the mission implementation, with the support of Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital, this anti-epidemic TCM medical team carried out medical assistance tasks in an all-round and multi-angle manner, characteristic diagnosis & treatment of diseases with TCM and outpatient service of non-drug therapy of TCM. Besides, it carried out science popularization activities and offered clinic service for free in local schools, Chinese-funded enterprises, communities and peasant households. The team served over 16,000 patients annually, among which 6,000 patients were clinically aided for free, and delivered more than 30 lectures on science popularization. The proportion of Cambodian patients in the outpatient service increased from 15% to 43% within one year, and the follow-up visit rate increased from 21% to 56%.

This medical team also set up China-Cambodia-Vietnam and China-Cambodia-Thailand international forums on TCM based in Cambodia. It also provided training on "appropriate technology of TCM" for local medical staff and occasionally instructed interns in outpatient service, making TCM gradually take root.

On May 17th, under a unified deployment of NATCM, nine members of Xiyuan Hospital of CACMS returned home as their term of service expired, while Fan Maorong and Zhang Yanhong left in Cambodia, getting ready for the second batch of China’s Cambodia-assisting medical team. While maintaining the normal work of TCM outpatient service, they further strengthened cooperation and exchanges with other departments of Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital. The rates of consultation and follow-up visit of local people had maintained a high proportion in TCM outpatient service. In the free time, the team continued its "TCM + Chinese" free clinic and tour activities, and on the basis of the characteristics, diagnosis & treatment of more than 50 commonly-seen diseases as well as the TCM nursing methods summarized in Cambodia, the “prescription” for health education in both Chinese and Cambodian was left, all of which undoubtedly deepened the friendship between Chinese and Cambodian people.

On July 4th, Fan Maorong and Zhang Yanhong handed over their work to the second batch of China’s Cambodia-assisting medical team that had just arrived. The second batch of China’s Cambodia-assisting medical team focused on the construction of China-Cambodia TCM Center, the continuous spread of TCM, and the imparting of appropriate technologies of TCM, thereby making a “TCM medical team that would stay” for Cambodia with unremitting efforts.
